APL-CMCC-ACCESS Workshop on "Empowering Human Wellbeing through Advances in Climate Analysis and Prediction"

APL held the APL-CMCC-ACCESS Workshop on "Empowering Human Wellbeing through Advances in Climate Analysis and Prediction" on 29-30 November, 2023 at Miyoshi Hall, JAMSTEC Yokohama Campus, Japan and online with many international participants.

Topic:The intersection of climate research and practical applications plays an indispensable role in mitigating the impact of extreme events, such as heatwaves, persistent droughts, intense floods, and disease outbreaks. Given the intricate connection between infectious diseases and climatic variables like rainfall and temperature, the ability to reliably predict these parameters with actionable lead times significantly reduces the vulnerability of affected communities. The capacity to anticipate and respond to extreme events is pivotal in establishing early warning systems and implementing proactive measures to curtail their repercussions. Consequently, the advancement of human wellbeing through the utilization of cutting-edge technologies in climate analysis and prediction marks a substantial stride towards building a sustainable and resilient future. These technological innovations empower us to gain deeper insights into extreme climate impacts, equipping governments, communities, and individuals with invaluable tools to not only make informed decisions but also adapt to shifting climate patterns, mitigate risks, and champion sustainability. Embracing innovation in this field safeguards our present and lays the foundation for a healthier, safer, and more prosperous future for generations to come. In line with this vision, the APL-CMCC-ACCESS workshop endeavors to delve into these issues and propose actionable strategies for advancing climate predictions and applications in health, agriculture and other societal sectors through the integration of AI/ML and digital twin technologies.
