The Project Coordination Team (PCT) is established by the Chikyu IODP Board (CIB) to help CIB-designated proposals develop into drilling projects. The PCT works closely with the implementing organization (IO), which for D/V Chikyu, is CDEX. The PCT considers a balance between scientific targets and operational constraints and advises the Director General of CDEX. Each PCT will have slightly different detailed responsibilities because each drilling project has different scientific end targets. The PCT coordinates with the Technical Advisory Team (TAT), in terms of managing the technological and engineering aspects of a project. The PCT membership shall consist of CDEX representatives, principle investigators, and external scientists and engineers as needed. The number of core members will be from five to eight. Meetings are held at least once annually.
