"NanTroSEIZE" by the Deep-sea Drilling Vessel Chikyu
-Announcement of Schedule Change-

The Deep-sea Drilling Vessel Chikyu belongs to the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC: Mr. Yasuhiro Kato, President) has changed her schedule as described below because of the typhoon No.9. The Chikyu was supposed to depart Yokohama port on September 10 and arrive at Shingu port (Shingu City, Wakayama Prefecture) on September 14, for the preparation of Nankai Trough Seismogenic Zone Experiment (NanTroSEIZE) at off Kii Peninsula which is part of Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP)*1.

Description

Estimated time of departure: 9:00am on Thursday, September 13, 2007 Depart from Homnoku Plant of Yokohama Shipyard, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd.

Estimated time of arrival: 8:00 am on Saturday, September 15, 2007 Arrive at Sano third pier, Shingu port in Shingu City, Wakayama Prefecture

*1: Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP)
The Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP) is an international marine research drilling program dedicated to advancing scientific understanding of Earth by monitoring and sampling subseafloor environments. Through multiple platforms, preeminent scientists explore IODP principal themes: the deep biosphere, environmental change, and solid earth cycles. IODP has started since October 2003 led by Japan and USA. IODP now has 21 member countries.
