Introduction of JAMSTEC's On Board Scientists
For IODP's NanTroSeize Expedition
The Deep-sea Drilling Vessel Chikyu is about to start "Nankai Trough Seismogenic Zone Experiment (NanTroSeize)" at Sea of Kumano off Kii Peninsula, part of "Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP)". Expedition 1 through 3 are scheduled during this fiscal year, and in addition to 21 scientists from our country, total of 66 scientists participate in from various counties including USA, Europe, China and Korea.

The Integrated Ocean Drilling Program (IODP) is an international marine research drilling program dedicated to advancing scientific understanding of Earth by monitoring and sampling subseafloor environments. Through multiple platforms, preeminent scientists explore IODP principal themes: the deep biosphere, environmental change, and solid earth cycles.
