Call for FY2009 Science Proposals
using Research Vessels and Vehicles

The Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC: Yasuhiro Kato, president) invites science proposals in FY2009 utilizing JAMSTEC’s research vessels and vehicles such as the Oceanographic Research Vessel "MIRAI", the Research Vessel "NATSUSHIMA", Support Vessel "YOKOSUKA", Deep Sea Research Vessel "KAIREI", Manned Research Submersible "SHINKAI 6500" and Remotely Operated Vehicle "KAIKO 7000 II".

Details
Science themes based on the "5-year plan for Research on the Ocean and the Earth"* are invited.
1)
For "NATSUSHIMA"
Themes for solo cruise of "NATSUSHIMA" or utilizing Remotely Operated Vehicle "HYPER-DOLPHIN" (for researches to be conducted in FY2009-2011)
2)
For "YOKOSUKA"
Themes for solo cruise of "YOKOSUKA" or utilizing Manned Research Submersible "SHINKAI 6500" or Deep Sea Cruising AUV "URASHIMA" (for researches to be conducted in FY2009-2011)
3)
For "KAIREI"
Themes for solo cruise of "KAIREI" or utilizing Remotely Operated Vehicle "KAIKO 7000 II" (for researches to be conducted in FY2009-2011)
4)
For "MIRAI"
Themes those are able to be undertaken jointly with major themes to be conducted in FY2009

Selection of the themes
After screening of the application documents by the committee of experts, research theme proposers will be informed of the result (informal offer) in early October.
Formal notification of adoption will be issued in March.
