The 12th “Draw Your Dreams of the Ocean on a Postcard” Contest

The Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC; Yasuhiro Kato, President) will host the 12th annual “Draw Your Dreams of the Ocean on a Postcard” contest for elementary school children.

JAMSTEC has long been dedicated to educational services which increase children’s awareness of the oceans. The contest is part of such initiatives and invites children across the country to draw or describe their dreams of or fascination with the ocean. It aims to inspire children’s interest in the ocean and to provide them with the opportunity to learn more about the ocean at school.

Children can enter the contest by submitting art works for three categories: hand drawn art, computer graphic (CG) art, and “ideas.”

The third category was added to the contest last year, to encourage children’s imagination and creativity. Children can either draw or describe their dream ocean instruments and probes.

All entries should be submitted from November 30, 2009 to January 31, 2010 (postmarked no later than this day). Pictures including computer graphics must be drawn in color on a postcard or postcard-sized paper. Emailed entries will not be accepted.
