Overview
Japan is a maritime nation with the 6th largest sea area in the world. There are a lot of bounty including marine mineral resources at the deep sea of the Japanese ocean area.
History of Our Chellenges
The second term of SIP "Innovative Deep Sea Resource Exploration Technology" implemented from 2018 to 2022 prior to current SIP3. In the past program, we have evaluated the approximate amount of resources of the rare earth elements in the deep-sea at the EEZ off Minamitorishima. Also, We have achieved the development of multiple Autonomous Undersea Robots (AUV) technology necessary for resource exploration, deep-sea terminal, and evaluate methods of the marine environment.
